Hohhot Metro is proposing to rename nine stations and is currently soliciting public feedback. The voting period ends at 24:00 on October 31, 2025.
The most urgent cases involve three stations on Line 1: "Inner Mongolia Museum", "Baita West (International Terminal)", and "Bayan (Airport)".
Since the Inner Mongolia Museum has moved near Hohhot East Railway Station, the original station name is no longer accurate. It is proposed to be renamed after nearby landmarks, such as the Inner Mongolia Ulanqab Grand Theatre, Inner Mongolia Open University, or Wanda Plaza.
Additionally, with the upcoming relocation of operations from Baita Airport to Shengle Airport, the original airport site will close, requiring name adjustments for the two corresponding subway stations. The proposal to rename Bayan (Airport) Station has already been publicly posted.
Below are the details and proposed alternatives for the nine stations:
1. Inner Mongolia Museum Station
As the museum has relocated, the landmark building in this area is now the Inner Mongolia Ulanqab Grand Theatre.

- Alternative: Dingxiang Road Station (Named after the road)
2. Houbutaqi Station
"Houbutaqi" means "bushes" or "shrubs" in Mongolian, originating from the natural environment of eastern Hohhot during the Qing Dynasty. With urban development, the area is now primarily residential and commercial. The Metro Control Center is a key landmark nearby.

3. Shilandai Station
The Inner Mongolia Hospital of Beijing Friendship Hospital (Capital Medical University) is currently under construction and is scheduled to open by the end of 2027, becoming a major landmark in the area.

4. Bayan (Airport) Station
After Shengle International Airport begins operations and Baita Airport closes, nearby landmarks will include the White Pagoda (Baita), the old Baita Railway Station site, Baita West Freight Station, and the Baita Fengzhou Ancient City Museum.

5. Lamaying Station
- Proposed: Wuhai East Street Station or Xing'an South Road Station (Named after roads)

- Proposed: Cardiovascular Hospital Station, No. 43 Middle School Station, or Civil Welfare Park Station (Named after landmarks)

7. Haoqinying Station
- Proposed: Xing'an North Road Station (Named after the road)
- Alternative: Keep original name
8. Yijiacun Station
- Proposed: Fengzhou North Road Station (Named after the road)
- Alternative: Keep original name
9. Xindian Station
As urban development plans progress, the Xindian Village area is gradually being incorporated into commercial planning zones and replaced. To clarify the station's orientation, a renaming is planned.
