On December 29 (Monday), the cities of Guangzhou and Xi'an welcomed the opening of new metro lines: the Post-Section of Guangzhou Metro Line 22 (Chentougang – Fangcun), Sun Yat-sen University South Gate Station on Line 10, and Xi'an Metro Line 15 (Xiliu – Dongzhaoyu).
Guangzhou Metro
Line 22 has a total length of 29.7 km with 8 stations (the newly opened section is 11.5 km with 4 stations). It is positioned as a north-south urban express rail, operating 8-car Type D trains with a speed of 160 km/h.
In the future, Line 22 will extend north to Baiyun Airport (accessible via Terminals T3, T1, and T2). The northern extension is currently under construction, spanning 41.1 km entirely underground with 10 stations.
Additionally, the newly opened Sun Yat-sen University South Gate Station on Line 10 and the Sun Yat-sen University Station on Line 8 are independent stations. However, passengers can transfer between them via an out-of-station walk.
Xi'an Metro
Starting at 11:00 on December 29 (Monday), Xi'an Metro Line 15 officially commenced operations. This marks the successful conclusion of the Xi'an Metro Phase III construction project. The total operational network length has now reached approximately 422 km, with 285 stations and 12 lines (excluding the Xihu Line).
Additionally, three existing stations have been renamed:
- Line 4: Yuanshuo Lu renamed to Yuanding Lu
- Line 2, Line 8: Shi Tushuguan renamed to Qingshaonian Zhongxin
- Line 2: Weiyijie renamed to Balicun
Line 15 runs from Xiliu Station in the west to Dongzhaoyu Station in the east, cutting through the southern urban area of Xi'an and connecting the High-tech Zone (Gaoxin), Chang'an, and Aerospace (Hangtian) districts. The line is approximately 19.5 km long, entirely underground, and has 13 stations. Trains use a mixed operation of 4-car and 6-car Type A sets, with a design speed of 100 km/h and a single-trip travel time of about 29 minutes.
Operating Hours:
- Dongzhaoyu Station: 6:15 – 23:00
- Xiliu Station: 6:00 – 22:45
- The minimum headway is 5 minutes and 30 seconds.
